Classical Star semi-finalist lands top youth award

FIFTEEN-YEAR-OLD SAXOPHONIST TYLER RIX – A SEMI-FINALIST IN THE BBC’S CLASSICAL STAR SERIES – HAS WON THE LUTINE PRIZE, THE GUILDHALL SCHOOL OF MUSIC & DRAMA’S TOP JUNIOR AWARD.
Rix beat five other finalists with a recital including works by
Bach and the first movement of Spanish composer Pedro
Itturalde's Pequena Czarda. His prize features a cash award and
the chance to perform with a top Junior Guildhall ensemble.
The youngster - who signed a recording contract with Universal
earlier this year - was also the recipient of the sax.co.uk scholarship for 2007-08. He
has attended Junior Guildhall - a special Saturday school in music
and drama - for five years and hopes to continue at the institution
after completing his A-levels at Dame Alice Owen's School in
Hertfordshire.
